I was a camper the second year that Mishemokwa opened (under the Smiths). I became a CIT and then counselor after that. My memory is faded, but I think my last year was around 80 or 81. Camp provides many great memories for me. I look forward to the reunion.

I just by chance googledcamp mishemokwa because I was thinking about Doc and Mrs. Smith today.  I think of them often and I also think of a lot of campers and staff too as I get into the middle aged years.  I wonder what has become of John Gibbons, Tommy Taylor, Mark Burge, Harry Harrison, and such.  Those summers on that mountain were some of my most joyous times!!!!!!!!  I hope to hear from some of you that remember me.  There was a boy when I was a counselor for the 6-8 year olds whose name was Gerrad whom I think alot of.  He had the most unusual slant on life and after two or three hours of thinking about dinner conversations we would have, I would finally understand what he was saying.  I especially wonder what kind of career he has now.........I live on the coast of Maine and work as a jewelry designer, painter, and photographer.  I also teach middle school and college courses. I have enjoyed looking at the pictures on the sight and it really flooded my mind with memories.  I was crowned "Mr. Mishemokwa" in 1984.  I am royalty!!!!!! lol.

I am glad this sight is up and hope it is active!!!!!!  And current.

Counselor  1984-1987

I was a basketball camper and had a "kitchen scholarship" during my Miami Beach High School summers of 1962-65. I sold my Orlando based advertising agency in 2006 and "retired" to Asheville, in part because of my fondness for the area during my three years at Mishemokwa. I am hosting a renunion of sorts in September with five of my old high school team mates all of whom are also  Mishemokwa alumni. We were planning a visit to the camp and am very sorry to learn it no longer exists. We will however make a pilgrimage up the mountain to honor our memories of it.

Worked at Mishemokwa in the summer of 1994 and thoroughly enjoyed it. I intended to return the following year unfortunately never made it back. Over the years I have worked mainly around the UK in finance / IT fields as well as DJing around the UK and Europe and even having a single released in Germany!!!!! I now live in London and work for the Rugby Football Union at Twickenham which isn’t bad for a Rugby League fan from St Helens (the Brits will understand why that is a little strange). My claims to fame at Camp were being jointly awarded councillor of the summer and being the person Rob Hallam used to kick empty beer cans off the head of – I am so glad he never drank alcohol and I did!

I was a camper in 94. I am Courtney Coleman's little sis.

It is wonderful to see a "reunion" website for Camp Mishemokwa. As for me, I just returned from serving two years in Peace Corps. I lived in Kazakhstan and taught English as a Foreign Language. I am currently teaching 3rd grade with plans on entering Grad. school to earn my Masters in International Studies. I want to continue living and teaching overseas. I was a camper, CIT, and counselor at Camp Mishemokwa. I attended Camp Mishemokwa from 1986-1994. I also went back in 1996 when the camp was turned over to George, (can not think of his last name). Camp Mishemokwa was a big part of my life and of my brother Jason Cook's life. I still keep in touch with several people. I still keep in touch with my dearest friend Lissa McKinney Jordan. We have kept our friendship for 18 years. I also keep in touch with several others.

I was a basketball camper in 1971 for the enitire summer. I fell in love with the place and decided as a teenager to retire in the area and still plan on it. It was a great environment to make friends with people from all over the country. Mr E.S. Johnson ran the camp and was over 70 then but was perfect for the job. He made the perfect father figure to the campers-tough when needed, but otherwise, a gentleman who genuinely loved kids. He had that twinkle in his eyes as someone who loves their job. I stopped in to visit in 1978 and 1994 to see how it looked. I will be there next week, which is why I thought to Google it and found this great site. Thanks, everybody, for sharing your pictures. Since I first looked at the site earlier today, I was wondering why it is so many people are connected to Mishemokwa. For me, 35 years later, I still think of the camp and people very fondly. I'm glad there are so many others had their lives enriched there too.
